Behavioral Health Aide Program

Behavioral Health Aide Program

Behavioral Health Aides (BHAs) provide culturally relevant behavioral health support in tribal and rural communities across Alaska, working as part of the health continuum of care.

The BHA Training and Career Pathway

Comprehensive training: The Training Center offers a full library of culturally relevant courses that meet the requirements for both the Specialized Training Track (BHA I and II) and the Alternative Training Track (BHA I, II, III, and Practitioner).

Accessible: Most courses are available remotely through self‑paced, instructor‑led, or blended formats, with some offered in person. The Training Center follows a quarter system, and classes are scheduled on a rotating basis.

Competency‑based: All courses are built to align with BHA curriculum standards, strengthen practical skills, support core competencies, and prepare students for reimbursable behavioral health services.

BHA I - Foundational training and supervised behavioral health support tasks.

BHA II - Expanded skills in education, screening, and brief interventions.

BHA III - Advanced competencies for working with more complex needs.

BHA Practitioner - Comprehensive behavioral health interventions under clinical oversight.
